Our Audi L has been at Bridge Classic Cars since 2022, undergoing a comprehensive restoration. It left the Auto Union factory in Ingolstadt on 8th January 1968. It was finished in Lotus White with a black interior and was built in right-hand drive for the UK market. Despite being built at the beginning of 1968, it wasn’t actually first registered here until 9th September 1969 as CGK 731H. The Audi L belongs to the F103 family, which began with the first car to carry the Audi name after the Second World War. In 1965, Auto Union took the DKW F102 and used it as the basis for a new car with a four-cylinder, four-stroke engine in place of the DKW’s two-stroke. The engine sat lengthways and drove the front wheels, a layout that would become familiar on Audis for years to come. Our car was built just over two years after that first post-war Audi went into production. The engine is not the original but, arguably, it’s even better. The car was built as a 72 PS Audi L but now runs an engine from the first generation of the Audi 100. The Bridge Classic Cars team has finished the car in Lotus White, the colour it left Ingolstadt in, with a black roof and its original black interior. Very few examples were made in RHD, and even fewer survive. Our 1969 Audi L is quite possibly one of the only surviving examples and is highly likely the best one!
