Prize details from Bridge Classic Cars
Created through Jack Daniel’s partnership with the McLaren Formula 1 Team, this limited edition whisky takes its name and design inspiration from the halo structure on a modern F1 car. The bottle is presented in a purpose-designed display, made from alloy metal, micro-suede and carbon-fibre-print detailing. It also has a hand-finished cork and custom medallions.
Its 58.7% ABV is a tribute to founder Bruce McLaren and his first racing car, which was an Austin 7 Ulster carrying the number 58.
Produced in Lynchburg, Tennessee, HALO MK1 uses Jack Daniel’s grain recipe of 80% corn, 8% rye and 12% malted barley. Before maturation, the whiskey passes slowly through ten feet of sugar maple charcoal as part of the distillery’s charcoal-mellowing process.
Made from American white oak, the barrels in which the whisky has been made use wooden staves that have spent an extended period seasoning outdoors before being made into barrels. Jack Daniel’s explains that this extra exposure softens the wood’s tannins before toasting, helping develop the whiskey’s colour, aroma and flavour.
Master Distiller Chris Fletcher’s tasting notes describe maple sweetness, fruit and toasted oak on the nose. Caramel and chocolate come through on the palate, followed by tobacco and baking spices, with lingering oak spice and brown-sugar sweetness on the finish.
