Prize details from The Classic Competition Company
A stunning 1988 Yamaha TDR250, presented in exceptional condition following a complete, no-expense-spared frame-up restoration completed in April 2022. Finished in beautiful Yamaha Marine Blue Metallic with white graphics, this is one of the nicest examples of Yamaha’s iconic two-stroke that we’ve had the pleasure of offering.
The bike was acquired by the previous keeper in October 2020, having reportedly spent over 30 years in storage. The restoration focused on returning the bike to factory-fresh condition, retaining as many original components as possible and using genuine Yamaha parts wherever replacements were needed.
The only significant cosmetic change is the colour scheme, with the original blue and yellow finish replaced by Yamaha Marine Blue Metallic, as used on the RD400. The paintwork was professionally completed by Dream Machine, with the graphics applied beneath the clear coat for a superb finish.
The engine and gearbox were completely stripped, inspected and rebuilt by Yamaha two-stroke specialists Taymar Racing. The cylinders were rebored to first oversize, with new pistons, rings, seals and clutch fitted. The accompanying engine report confirmed very little wear to the original components.
Other specialist work includes fully rebuilt forks by Brook Suspension Services, restored brake calipers by BiggRed, rebuilt wheels by Hagon with stainless steel spokes, and carburettors rebuilt by Superbike Surgery. The original exhaust system has also been retained and Cerakoted.
The bike has covered just 517 miles since restoration, with the odometer showing 2,243 miles in total. Although the total mileage cannot be verified, the original 1988 date-coded tyres, engine inspection and previous ownership history all support the exceptionally low indicated mileage.
It comes with an extensive restoration file containing photographs, invoices, previous MOT certificates and original documentation, along with its original toolkit, keys and genuine Yamaha accessories.
The bike is certified ULEZ exempt, starts and runs beautifully, and is a fantastic example of this increasingly desirable Japanese two-stroke.
