A cheap ticket and a good bet are not the same thing. Plenty of penny raffles run pools of half a million entries, which makes a 25p ticket far worse value than a £2 one in a capped draw. We rank every live UK competition with entry at £1 or under by Value Ratio (lower is better) and show the real odds beside it.

Low price, long odds — the penny raffle trap

A 99p entry sounds like nothing until you notice the draw has 250,000 tickets. Buying a hundred of them costs £99 and still leaves you at roughly 1 in 2,500. The ticket price tells you what one entry costs; the Value Ratio tells you how much of that money is actually going into the prize, and the odds column tells you what you are getting for it. Cheap entry is only good value when both of the other two hold up.

What to look for under £1

Prefer draws with a capped ticket allocation over open-ended ones, and check the current odds column — on a draw that is selling slowly, the live odds can be far shorter than the full-house figure. Anything with a Value Ratio near 1.0 is returning almost all the ticket revenue as prize value.

Frequently asked questions

Are penny competitions worth entering?
Only when the ticket pool is capped sensibly. A 1p entry into a 1,000,000-ticket draw is poor value despite the price — you would need to spend thousands to reach meaningful odds. The table above ranks every sub-£1 draw by Value Ratio and shows the odds, so the cheap-but-hopeless ones sort to the bottom.
What is the cheapest UK competition I can enter?
Entries currently start at 1p on some instant-win and angling draws. The table lists every live competition at £1 or under, but it ranks them by value rather than by price, because the cheapest ticket is rarely the best bet.
Do cheap competitions have worse odds?
Usually, yes. Operators fund the prize from total ticket revenue, so a lower price generally means more tickets in the draw. That is exactly why we show the Value Ratio and the odds together rather than sorting on price alone.
