Prize details from The Classic Competition Company
A very nice 1977 Harley-Davidson FLH Electra Glide 1200cc Shovelhead, with matching numbers and Historic Vehicle status.
This bike has recently had a major overhaul by an engineer owner who has owned and worked on Harleys since 1981. It has been built as a reliable, usable Shovelhead rather than a full show restoration, with a long list of common weak points already addressed.
The work includes rebuilt brake calipers with custom hardened pins and bushes, new master cylinder seals, new pads and black Goodridge brake hoses. The steering, swingarm and wheel bearings and seals have all been replaced, the forks have been rebuilt, and it has also had new wiring, a new battery, rebuilt starter motor, new clutch pack, primary chain and O-ring drive chain.
The rear brake and shifter shafts have had custom bushes made and fitted, removing the usual slop these bikes can suffer from. The front brake and clutch levers and pins have also been improved in the same way.
It has new gloss black paint, new dash and tank badges, a new ignition switch with two keys, rebuilt original Keihin carb, new air filter element, new seat, and a complete new points ignition setup. The working speedo shows 21,300 miles, although it is an aftermarket unit so this is not the total mileage from new.
It still keeps some honest character, with light age-related marks and some original chrome showing minor pitting in places, but overall it presents very well and has clearly been put together with usability in mind.
